View Full Version : exporting FBX to discreet smoke 6

Hi,

I am trying to import Lightwave 7.5 models into smoke 6 with the FBX option.

Everything imports O.K. except for one thing.

If I import some letters, for example: AOBD, the centers of all the letters
are solid instead of there being a hole there. Also, if I import a ring, FBX imports a solid disc instead of a disc with the center cut out.

Other models, like a pair of shoes, etc. import correctly.

I can import the FBX model I initially created in LW7.5 back into LW and it is correct.

Does anyone have any idea of what is happening?

I don't have smoke 6, however give this a try and see what happens. Triangulate all faces, I have found problems like this before in other software. Where a hole in the face shows as solid. Apparently some programs have problem determining how to create the hole.
I think and am not sure about this, but 3DMax uses 3 point polys instead of 4. Which maybe part of the problem when using 3ds files.
