Hello everyone,

I have been lurking in these forums for a couple of weeks, this is my first post. I am new to lightwave and just bought 7.5. I had a hard time choosing between lightwave and maya 5, but--the price was right.

For my question--Has anyone bought and used Dan Ablan's signature series courseware? I bought his "Inside Lightwave" Book and really thought it was great. But, the courseware is a hefty $300--is it worth the price?

For now stick with books and internet tutorials. There is a lot of good learning material out there for free. After you get a taste for the basics of lightwave and you want something more meaty. Then I would looking into spending some dough on stuff like courseware or dvd's.

Here is a great place for tutorials for free that go over many many different subjects.

Here also.

Try here for good video tutorials on a variety of different subjects. There are free tutorials here and if you want to buy some they are very reasonably priced. Probbly 50-80% less than most dvd's or training courses. Very detailed tutorials also, going completly through projects from every point and polygon to the end.

Sorry if I sound impartial to simplylightwave.com but I mod for there boards and its simply a wonderfull community there with great lightwave learning material.

I dont know personaly about Dan Alban's stuff but before you purchace a large ammount of learning material explore the free stuff and get a good feel for Lightwave basics first.

And after you do as Johnny9ball said, get Dan's stuff.;)
Our GFX guys here love his stuff.

There is great support from the LightWave community, but you can never have enough knowledge in your field. Danís books and courses, as well as others, will accelerate your ability to make good money.

We just bought a few more books on PhotoShop and After Effects for non-linear editing at NAB and just on the flight home, we learned some great tips for a production we are doing next week.
Knowledge equals success.

@DJinNY:

I believe Dan's still has some sample lessons available for download (pretty big files because they use little compression to assure a good quality video output). Have a go and see if you like what you see.

Took a look at it myself and ordered the LW8 version right away (should be available in May, I think).

Cheers,
Andreas
