Nice work, Craig! Did you use any references or just make it up as you go?

Cheers guys. This stuff doesn't seem too poular around here, but hey :( I'm workin on it, so I'm gonna post it! :D

Slight update then. Some actual renders this time, one of the cockpit, and one complete plane to show control surfaces

I like the renders. The design is interesting and the vehicle is coming along quite well. I think the images you posted before might have been too preliminary to comment on.

Awesome work, Craig. Sweet design.

interesting concept. Are you going to texture it or are you going to keep it shiny like it is now?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Matt, apart from drawing on ideas from aviation photos it is mainly just made up as i go. I'm no concept artist, I have adieas but cannot commit them to paper!

Phyc, the design is to the best of my knowledge totally original (as are the other three in my projects section at www.f-nine.co.uk ). Some people have made mention of a game (?) called Crimson Skies, but i haven't actually seen it.

Anieves, the surfacing is all temporary, and it will get fully textured. I have made a start on texturing one of the other three on my site.

Here are some updates anyway.

Update #1 (http://www.f-nine.co.uk/xfer/racer_04_24.jpg)

Update #2 (http://www.f-nine.co.uk/xfer/racer_04_26.jpg)

Update #3 (http://www.f-nine.co.uk/xfer/racer_04_28.jpg)

Cheers for now

Hey there, Nice looking air craft! I thought you might like to know when I accessed your http://www.f-nine.co.uk URL and it loaded all the image slices fine and then auto switch to your http://www.f-nine.co.uk/index_2.htm URL where it would load all the NAV interface slices and then just as it finished it would auto refresh the page over and over again in a loop. So, I wasn't able to check out the rest of your projects there. =( ;)

Just thought you'd like to know since the page may have some Script code in there causing the issue. FWIW, I've only been able to check this via my Ti PowerBook so far since my PC is busy rendering away so it could be an IE v5.2 on MAC issue only. I thought I'd do some LW surfing while I wait on the PC's number crunching. ;) I'll check it via the PC later and unless I post another heads-up figure it's not an issue on the system/version browser.

Best regards, Miles =)

Extremely nice work Craig. I love your design and execution. The cockpit details are very nice and the surfacing is going to be great as well. Can't wait to see more.

Nice work especially the cockpit...

Can you please tell me how you did the glass and its reflection - it looks awesome....

Keep it up !

Yeah I noticed that lovely sheen on the canopy, great texture settings, did you use 'Bloom' or 'Corona' on it to achieve that 'flare'?

Thanks for the cool comments. The glass is very simple, set with a low reflective glass on the 'outise surface' polys, around 5%, ramped up to about 18% with FastFresnel. The 'inner surface' has the same spec, but no reflection, no IOR. The outer has IOR at about 1.1

I also have imageworld applied with an HDRI map at 30% intensity.

More updtae soon I hope.

Cheers

it does vaguely resemble one of the planes in CRIMSON SKIES, but only in the overall shape (big wing in back, little one in front. i'm pretty sure they had the prop in the rear. fun game, BTW). i really like the way it narrows in the middle. sweet.

Thanks lone, I looked at the movie trailer thing for crimson skies, stoopid big text all over the place, kinda hard to see the planes!

Ok, here's a round-up of what I got so far:

Hi Craig,

I'd like to get a look at your recent progress, but the "..." part of each of those links seems to prevent that. Perhaps the links from your last post could be revised? Thanks.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the updated links.

Wow! You've conjured up an entire fleet already. Very, very impressive. One think you might think about adding is some stenciled-on hint of panels where landing gear might exist. Those bad boys must need to land sometime (as well as take off). Right now, the surfaces look so smooth it's hard to imagine that there is any place to even store landing gear. But as I said - very, very impressive.

I really like the plan renderings and the partial wireframes. The HDRI didn't really seem to do them justice just yet. Keep up the fine work.
