Does anyone know the best way to inflate an object? The best way I can describe what I am trying to do is picture a hot air baloon (uninflated) laying on the ground -- elongated. How would I go about inflating the baloon and making it look somewhat realistic?

The first thing that comes to mind would be to try doing it with morph maps. Start with the balloon inflated and build one or more maps of it deflated/deflating.

How about soft bodies?

A solution I found was a bit easier than trying to fiddle forever with the settings was this:

Put baloon in scene and add soft bodies to it.. Make it deflate.. It doesn't matter how fast it goes, nor if there are some minor flaws..

At invervalls where it looks good, create an endomorph (file/save/save endomorph).
Now you can tweak the different stages of deformation in modeler.. Animate again in layout with morph mixer.

This way you can play it backwards. Easier to deflate a baloon with soft bodies than to inflate it :)
