View Full Version : I miss Vidget

I read somewhere that Vidget doesn't work in WinXP so I didn't bother reinstalling it. If it does work, that's great, I'll install it. If it doesn't work in WinXP what are the chances of getting it to work?

It won't work on XP and it is no longer being developed.

miss vidget... too bad it's not on xp...

Will it work in 'compatability mode' [ya, i know, most things that won't work won't work, but its worth a shot, right?]

I think the problem was hooking it into the RMB menu.

If that really is the _only_ problem, I'd love to see a new version that just sits on the desktop as a drag'n'drop target.

And yes, I miss vidget too ... *sigh*

I miss my Vidget!

If they are not going to update it maybe we should push for them to release it opensource so that we the users can update it to work with Win XP and beyond.

Vidget was just another Newtek product that was going to revolutionize the industry and.. well, doesn't.

Vidget was just another Newtek product that was going to revolutionize the industry and.. well, doesn't.

But it does. It completely revolutionized the industry of encoding under W2K ... only ;)

So to never let this topic die, I am reviving it and asking what are the chances of getting vidget that works on XP? Cmon, we know you can do it.

If I remember correctly, Vidget works on 2000, right? Maybe if you install it on a 2000 machine and then copy the needed registry entries (moving them to their new homes on XP [some of them changed]) it will work?

What is Vidget?

Vidget was a really cool little tool for encoding video. For example, you could right click on an avi and tell it to encode to a mov. It was a really simple and useful tool, and I too wish it could still be used :(

Vidget was one of many abandoned ideas by Newtek. Get used to it... the rest of the industry has. :cursin:

We want Vidget!

Maybe with speededit out, they will have more use for a video converter. I am correct on what it is right?

Maybe with speededit out, they will have more use for a video converter.

I'd expect time instead to be put into expanding the formats SpeedEdit reads, so that files don't need to be converted in the first place.

I sure hope there is a way to bring Vidget back. It was especially good with image sequences. You could right click a folder full of TGA image sequence and Vidget knew you want them converted maybe in an avi ..or mpg. It was great. Even now several years later it's dificult to find batch converter software converting back and forth between images / video . And so easy ?

I miss it too. I've been using Quicktime Pro but I miss the simple usability and ease I had with vidget. :(

Come One Newtek! Give Us Vidget !! :)

08-26-2007, 06:44 PM
Wish wish wish...

Gosh, I'm in such a bad mood at the moment... so much code gone to waste...

11-06-2007, 04:43 PM
Vidget was great. Loved just clicking on a file and converting it.

A little program that did what it stated.

11-19-2007, 12:26 PM
wow... this has got to be the longest lasting thread I ever started. :)

still no vidget tho.

12-11-2007, 03:58 AM
Actually, I could sure use something like this now...convert my m2v files to something programs like SpeedEdit will eat nicely.

12-11-2007, 08:36 AM
Yep Newtek, listen to us Vidget is a usefull little tool. Please revive it!

12-11-2007, 09:36 PM
I think part of the problem is that there are Sooooo many "flavors" of video now. Even exporting a "simple" .mov file has so many variables depending on the application it's going to, it can boggle the mind.

As soon as the world quits creating different file formats, NewTek will again bring out Vidget.
Oh crud, I guess neither will ever happen. :(

03-12-2008, 02:05 PM
the multitude of file formats is why we need vidget. :D
