Does anyone know if its possible to use an image file (for instance, script text on a transparent surface) to stencil the text or image onto an object surface and etch the text into the object, or better yet, raise the text out of the object so its 3D surfaces can be textured with a gold metal texture? I know you can create a text object in LW and use it in the background layer as a boolian drill, but I thought there might be a way to use any image file or alpha file to etch into an object's surface. Could this kind of function have been the subject of a preview of new capacities in LW8? I seem to remember some kind of discussion along this line from somewhere.

You really need to crack open that manual. It will tell you how to do what you want plus one or two other things.
