Timothy Albee gave a great interview over at Rendernode. Can anyone elaborate on the following, perhaps providing a quick step-by-step example? For instance, what does he mean by "re-light scenes?"

"By using depth-channels, I am able to isolate segments of the render based upon a PIXEL's distance-to-camera. Combining this depth-based Compositing and Digital Fusion's extreme sub-PIXEL calculations and handling of HDR-Images, I was able to completely re-light scenes in near-real-time in Digital Fusion. Couple that with DF's depth-based blurring and beautiful "lens-effects," and you've got the rich look of a render that would take 20 times longer to tweak the minutia to perfection in the 3D Package alone!"

Or should I just wait for his book?

Didn't read the interview but I suppose he's talking about the shader tool which allows you to change lighting to a certain degree. It also has an input for an environment reflection map. I've played with it briefly and it was interesting.

I'm sure he means changing the lighting of the scene in post! pretty cool
