Hi All,

I am seeking work in the Southern California region as a 3D Artist. I've made the first revision of my demo reel available on-line. (Windows Media 7, ~17 megs...) I'm looking for critique, but also for job opportunities.

So here's my reel: http://www.reflectionsoldiers.com/demoreel/demo_reel_1b_ng.zip

And here's my resume: http://www.nanogator.com/resume/resume.doc

Advice warmly welcomed. Just remember I won't be back online for a couple of days while I head down to LA.

Cheers

Let me just say that NanoGator is awsome to all the prospective employers that might be watching this. If you want skills and work ethic, just look at his ferrion race game work. kudos:)

You might want to convert your resume to html.

Some people are hesitant about downloading .doc files, as they could contain viruses.

hey man, good stuff. That canon looks sweet in motion, although I'd like to see it firing :)

Two things about the reel bothered me.

#1 When I tried to play it on the MAC at work I got some kind of unknown codec error. I clicked through that and got to watch the video but there wasn't any sound.

#2 You have your name/slate up for 20 seconds at the beginning and then at the end for like 4 seconds. Personally, I'd put it up front for 5 seconds and then for 20 seconds at the end. I didn't like waiting for the reel to start. If they like your stuff they'll stick around for the contact info at the end.

@DeltaF86: Wow that's very nice of yu man, thank you. :)

@TyVole: Fair point. You can see my resume in HTML format at http://www.nanogator.com/resume . The only real reason I didn't post it that way before is because my site isn't done yet...

@dwburman: Rats. I chose the WMV 7 codec because it does work on Mac, had no idea the audio wouldn't... Well the bad news is I'm not sure how to fix that. The good news is that I now have a Mac to test it on. So hopefully the next demo reel i do will be more Mac friendly. :)

Good point about the intro page. I definitely need to shorten it or at least make it a little more exciting. (I was a little too strict with the song there.. sorry..)

@Kvaalen: Thank ya. :) Well I'm in Los Angeles now so that should make job hunting simpler. *Whew* Long drive.

Wow!

Your modeling/texturing/lighting skills are really good! And the animation of that ultra super lasercannon is really nice.

Some pointers: The intro is too long, as someone already have pointed out. Depending on what kind of work you are looking for, I would say that animation showing weight and balance is a good thing to have.

Other than that... amazing work, and a nice resume as well! I would be surprised if you didnīt get a job soon!

Yeah, I like the new version. I just discovered that MS finally has Windows Media Player 9 for OS X now.

Is it safe to assume that a Mac user would need to install it, or is there anything automatic about it?

(I prefer WM9 but it's not so worthwhile if I have to make the Mac people jump through extra hoops..)

It isn't anymore trouble than MAC users had to go through when they installed Windows Media Player 7.

I use MACs and own/use PCs.
