I am looking at gettting a new video card, which one is best? I am looking at a nvidia chipset; the 5700 with 256 megs or the 5900 with 128 megs. I have dual monitors also and hope to add a third monitor. The system is an AMD 64 3200+ with 1.5 gig of ram.
What card would you get?

Get a 5900se or 5900xt (same thing, really). You can get one from Newegg.com for around $189.

To mattclary:

I'm going to buy this card as well 5900XT or SE and also 2 monitors, does it work good with lightwave?? I play games sometimes as well, is it good with games. From what I've read it is pretty good.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Dude, do you think I would recommend one that wouldn't work with LightWave? ;)

It's what i have in my machine, I bought it because my Wildcat VP 970 wouldn't play Knights of the Old Republic.

My exact card:

Hey, can you post screenshots from Knights of the Old Republic with the highest settings so there is no lag, with sync on?
I couldn't find any images on the net... :(

If you had the money - would you buy this card?
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=684637&Sku=W261-0080&CatId=320

I'm looking at the usual electronics places and the best I can find
is the Nvidia and ATI - both 256MB at $500

I care more about a million polys in Lightwave than I do, about games.
And I want two monitors.
So I found this here "512MB" work station card for $700.
Worth it?
3D Labs a good choice?

Assuming it will work fine with my Dell Dimension 8100, 1.4GHZ.

Any thoughts? Sorry to hijack this thread but I searched for "card"
here and didn't want to start a new thread. And of course - I want to hear
from Lightwavers.
Any help appreciated!

This subject has pretty much been done to death - Matt would be the first one to tell you the 3D Labs cards aren't worth the money (for LightWave use anyway) and I'm inclined to agree - get the nVidia he recommends - it's the best bang for buck you can get right now with the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra being the current "state-of-the-art" (although the NV40's will be here soon).
