I'm new - looking for a way to make skid marks to appear as in an airliner skidding to a halt down a runway. Any tutorials out there or advise?
thanks,
carol

I would make two textures for the runway, one without skids and one with. Then use a gradient image to disolve between the two by setting an envelope in the X position of the gradient image.

Here is an example (http://www.3danimationonline.com/RunwayExample.zip)

Here's a technique using parented particle emitters -- http://www.newtek-europe.com/uk/community/lightwave/waadt/3.html

It's by Christian Waadt. He's featured in the Community section of the NewTek Europe website.

There is also the LLJ_Draw_shader at Flay.com which will draw lines on a surface based on a null's movement.

And completely off topic, you could also watch the movie Female Trouble. I think there are some skid marks in an early scene. :D
