Hey all,

I'm looking for a 3d model of a pirate.
I've check the usual resources I'm familiar with such as
turbosquid.com
3dcadbrowser.com

I'm open to different styles, but it needs to portray a tough guy and can't be low poly.

Does anyone else have any good 3d character resources for purchasing models?

Thanks!

Justin

You could always go with Creature Creator from FXRealm. You can create your own characters then tweak them to your own desires.

Another options is if you own Poser 4 or 5 from Curious Labs. You could purchase a character like Michael 3 from DAZ.com and add their Pirate pak to make him look like a pirate.
Once you have Michael all set up in Poser then just export him and the all the options you added to him via obj format. Once imported into Lightwave just rig him like you would any other character, or purchase a plugin that would bring over the rig as well.
Good Luck

A quick note about DAZ.
Their license does not allow you to sell or give away their models. However you may do commercial renders to your hearts content.
So their models are great for animations, but no good for games.

Check through the archives at CG Challenge, I'm sure they did a pirate Challenge of sorts awhile back. You might find something you like there and can approach the creator.

That was one of the first places that came to my mind too! Unfortunately it seems that all the images were pulled off the master thread for that challenge some time ago.

Otherwise that would have been a great place to start.

Poser won't work for me in this case, It needs to be a model of higher detail/more unique than what I have seen done in poser, though I do thank you for the suggestion.

I looked into Creature Creator, but I think it has the same draw back as Poser. I'm looking for a custom model. My time frame is very tight, and it's looking like I will have to try and sqeeze modeling time into the project also if I can't come up with a Pirate soon :)

Thanks all.

Are there other turbosquid like sites out there?

FXRealm bad company, I bought something from them and they never delivered. I fought with them for several months and still nothing. This is one company that I could care less if some terrorist blows up....

yes, that free one isn't much to talk about for my needs, and though there are some higher priced models

is the nicest one there, perhaps, but he looks more like an overweight drunken pirate instead of a tough one. :)

Thanks for the suggestion!

riki, I saw that illustration, and was amazed. Very nice indeed.
and I was equally if not more impressed with this one

It's the best so far, perhpas I'll have to get in touch with the artist, or just tackle it myself.

Thanks all,

Justin
