View Full Version : New 8 Videos This week Proton?

03-09-2004, 11:51 AM
Hi Proton are you showing us any Lightwave 8 goodies this week?

03-09-2004, 12:22 PM
I think he's using the Piranha like fever of FPrime to take a break from new demo’s

03-09-2004, 12:44 PM
Darn, you beat me to this question, I was about to ask the same thing. It would still be nice to have some new feature videos to watch even with the excitement of F-Prime.

Please Proton show us some new cool stuff in LW8.

I bet Proton is pretty busy these days. Proton , I know you will be glad when LW8 ships so that you will not have to provide these videos anymore.

It seems that people don't realize that mabe there is nothing to show this week or next week, and that the features presentation may be stretched a little thin by now. 57 videos so far!

Don't worry guys, I'm sure if there is anything worth showing us he will get to it ASAP. Give the guy a break.

I would like to see some more hard/soft body demos. :D

I would like to see some Network Rendering demos. Better yet, I'd even settle for any kind of HINT about changes made to Network Rendering... Please, please, please!

Ooo, ooo, and any news of a stable useable Linux render client that works? :D

Speaking of videos, where's Lee haven't seen him around lately.

From a post Lee made on the LW mailing list a few days ago :

"Unfortunately, the pre announcement and subsequent delay of LightWave
[8] has totally killed my LightWave training busines. This is
understandable, because when people think a new version is around the
corner they don't want to invest in training on the old version...and
LightWave[8] has been around the corner for almost a year. Starting
with the annoucement last year, there was a drop in attedence and
that's turned into...nothing. Literally, not a single signup in about
seven weeks. You can imagine what that's like. Obviously, this has
hurt NewTek as well and I'm pretty sure that if they had it do over
again, they'd do some things differently.

I tried to find work in Austin, where I live. That didn't happen. So,
about six weeks I came out to L.A. for a job. I'm staying with my
father while my wife and 3 of my kids are back in Austin. I haven't
seen Lauren or the kids in a month and half, and can't afford to get
back even for a weekend. I'm teaching LightWave part time at a
school, and doing graphics jobs as I can find them. I don't have
decent internet accees, so there you go..."

Whilst I have had disagreements with Lee in the past, this is a bit rough for anyone to go through.

I agree with js33, I'd like to see more dynamics vids, plus, how about something on the improved particle system?

Maybe we are getting close to release

03-09-2004, 04:18 PM
Let me rephrase that.

Maybe we really ARE getting close to release :D

03-09-2004, 04:25 PM
Double tap ...... :o

03-09-2004, 04:31 PM
Cheers Yog, that's awfull.

If you get to read these posts Lee, best of luck with the future and I hope you get back on track soon.

Hopefully everyones holding out for LW8 and Lee will get a sudden rush of business. His videos are some of the best I've seen.

Anyone who took the DFX+ LW8 upgrade offer and would like to learn how to use DFX+ efficiently and learn how to be a better compositor should sign up for Lee's online class.

Check out his post here

Cool stuff.

Without a doubt Lee Stranahan rates very high in my list as far as training personalities go. In my opinion he offers top notch training combined with an engaging, laid-back personality that makes it very comfortable and easy to learn.

Man, you would think with all the knowledge the guy has the work would be coming out of his ears. What does this say about Lightwave, I wonder....

Lee...if you have any training videos for advanced users of LW8
I will be first in line to buy them. I thoughly enjoy your teaching technique and wit. Money is tight for me,but this I will do...for BOTH of our benefits. Hang in there!

Advanced LW 8 training videos are on my shopping list.

I'll be posting 5 thise week like every other week :)

in due time...in due time :)

03-09-2004, 10:02 PM

If you read this. Sorry to hear about the current state of events for you. Lightwave 8 'should' be out by the end of this month and hopefully you will get alot of interest once it's out. Also hopefully Newtek won't ever let so much time lag between annoucement and release again.

Cheers Proton. Look forward to seeing them :)

This may sound sad to some but Sunday night just chilling out opened up the folder and rewatched all the vids so far just astounded me after working in Lightwave 7.5 all weekend how much time this release is going to save in work flow, when I think back to how I'd been working all those hours before.
Really looking forward to the release now :D
