I feel stupid asking this, because it should (?) be obvious, but...

How do you save a still with an alpha channel?

I've tried this for PNG (first choice), TGA32, and RTV (RTV "almost" worked but came out "scrambled"). But when I drag the resulting image into VT-Edit, it still shows the checkerboard background, even when I select Overlay. I've tried it with the checkerboard on and off, premultiply on and off, etc. I even read the manual.

My steps:
File/Import an image.
Erase the background I don't want (checkerboard shows through).
Select File/Mode/PNG.
Set 32 bits for PNG.
File/Export/Alpha Channel/Premultiply (or not).
File/Export/Image.

...And I get an image with an opaque checkerboard background.

What am I missing? Thanks for any advice, every time I start up Aura it makes me feel like a newbie.

EDIT: SOLVED - finally found the combination - "Enable Stencil" must be selected at the top of the screen, AND the checkerboard must be set to "None".

Is it just me, or is that a bit nonintuitive? Alpha should be alpha, whether it's a checkerboard or or not. And why wouldn't the ever-present alpha layer be "enabled"? Sorry, old and frustrated. Thanks for looking!

The Stencil setting shouldn't have any impact; The "None" BG Display setting is necessary, however.
