View Full Version : Smoothing Question for Newbie

Im making an 3D logo for some awards ceremonies and im giving it a gold preset. When i hit the smoothing in the Surface Editor and render a frame i get very harsh dark areas in the render, why does it do that? Im new to 3D but dont hesitate to get technical on me. BTW its very crude right now only three spots are on it and there is no floor so the "C" isnt cut off.

I circled the areas where i get the harsh lines.

Thanks in advance for your time

Turn anti-aliasing on in the camera properties.

What is the resolution of the camera set at?

Also are these letters made of text generated in Modeler?

I would like to see the model, could you zip it up and send it to me? I don't want to use it, I just want to see if the alias happens on my lightwave as well. THen it may be an object problem.

[email protected]

I'll render a frame and post it to see if there is any difference.

The models you sent me were very basic text models. From the image it looked as if you had some beveling on the faces but it may be that you just had the smoothing setting around 89.00 or higher for the rounded front effect.

The models came out clean on my computer., I just threw in a plane and shined some spotlights on them.

They seem fine on my computer although for gold you may wont to try a reflection spherical map with ray tracing OR use a bump map to break up the reflection a little bit.

Settings may be off due to PC/MAC differences.

Posting picture in a few seconds....sorry

Simply added a bevel and made the bevel surface glow only.

The bevel rounded out the letters nicely. Just a quick example.

Not sure if I helped you fix the problem on your computer though.

But, your welcome anyways. Do you want the modified models and scene files?

What Version of Lightwave are you using?
