I have a large ice block that I'm trying to animate so that cracks begin running through it.

I've been using morphs, and it works, but the number of steps to get one good looking crack has made me wonder if there is a better solution.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

well, I'd use animated texture maps (as long the cracks do not need to actually go thru the object and a slight change in refraction and transparency will sell the illusion). You would of course need a compositing app or something similar to create these. For instance if you have After Effects you could use the Shatter effect or Advanced Lightning to get an array of possible variations.

Thanks for the input! I actually did need to see through the cracks (with more than just a surface). I was able to find this (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lw3d/message/62928) on LW3d.

Worked out great for what I was after. I only need one morph per 'crack' and then one null would set off each crack using Normal Displacement.

Thanks for your suggestions!
