View Full Version : Build 4744 version crashes regularly

Building a cg project of around 50+ files.
CG crashes VT[3] about once every 5th or 6th title.

Is that normal?

No, it's not. I've spent an afternoon building pages in CG, with zero crashes or lockups.

Haven't crashed in a long time here, either. Lots of programs open? VT[3] modules?

No problems here. What "kind" of crash are you getting? Is there an error message?

I also run into trouble using the character generator, especially with larger projects. I found out though that in my case, it isn't actually crashing completely - just locking me up for about 20 seconds. It sure slows down data entry in the CG program but at least it's usable. Try to give your computer a minute or so and see if it unfreezes.

I think this happens sometimes when you insert pages and move things around. I think CG then tries to re-draw the PNG pages that are automatically saving to the specified directory. When I was building the groups of 100 templates, I would notice that when I dragged, for instance, page 85 down by page 64, CG would freeze for a moment. I assumed that it was re-drawing pages 65 through 100 because the inserted page bumped everything off by 1.

Not sure if that's exactly what's happening, but it's a theory. It has frozen up unexpectedly before, but not very often.

Yes, when I do large numbers of pages in CG, there is definately a noticable slowdown, but not a "crash".

I have had all three of the following occur:

1. The "Saving..." GUI stays on forever and ever, and never does anything.

2. The VT software shuts down suddenly.

3. System freezes up.

Never have I gotten an error message.

That sounds like the behavior of CG before 4744. Wonder if your install somehow kept some old DLL's or something? Have you tried a complete removal and re-install? If not, wait till the end of the week and get Patch 3!

Yeah, I agree with Brad, that sounds like the pre Patch 2 situation with the CG...

My bad. The second two instances are on a workstation with the previous build, confirming what Brad and Eugene noted.

The "Saving...." GUI staying on, however has happened intermittently on the 4744 system. I'm still checking it out, though I think it may have something to do with what Tim was speculating on. These are projects with a large number of pages.

If a new patch correcting remaining problems is forthcoming, then perhaps this thread will be dead once and for all.
