Multiply: A*B

LWMultiply: Sqr(A*B)*4/5

Can anyone explain why the Multiply blending mode (and most of the other modes as well) don't do what they say they do?

How about we have both? Maybe Sqr(A*B)*4/5 makes sense some of the time, but when I want to multiply 20% by 30%, I expect 6%, not 24.5%.

It would be acceptable if multiplying by 100% returned 100%, but even that darkens the image (returns 80%).

Can anyone out there provide me with a decent explanation as to why LW does this?
