Is it considered bad modeling techique if all geometry of a object is not connected?

For example,

Say I am modeling a fire helmet, and will use subpatch.

And I want there to be a badge on the front of the helmet.

It would be easier to model the badge seperately and move it into
position,

rather than modeling it out from the existing mesh of the helmet.

thanks

If it works, it works!!!

There are some times when unconnected geometry is a bad thig ..such as, when making a body thats going to be animated you will want it as one whole skin.

But for solid body items..such as fire helmets...not a problem!

I would recomend that you save the object as a layered on first (just in case you want to go back and edit it at some point) and then flatten the layers into one (and save it as a single item) to save confusion when you take it to layout, because if you dont your gonna end up with tons of layers if you have a few different objects in the scene.
