and one more thing i like to see with LW8.
Maybe it is there maybe not:
When mirroring skelegons in Modeler, it should produce rotational
axes, that could be used in Layout to animate also in
symmetrical way. Like in Maya: Bones-> mirror behaviour!

And one more thing: That i began to think about, but have
seen in no software: This is selective influence for bones in terms
of transformation components: You could be able to determine,
wich components of rotation move and scale for weightmap the bone affects.
(X Y Z or all of them). But maybe it is impossible because of
already speedoptimized matrix caluculations.
