I am trying to "flare" out tube ends.

I do have the plugin "rounder" but it never flares the ends out, only in.

There has to be a simple method that I am failing to see.

I think i just need to spend more time with the taper tools... they appear to do what I want, but I guess I need to learn how to really tweak them.

I am trying to attach a "mini wing" between a thruster and a body of a space craft. this wing is oval in shape (aero-dynamic-like) and I am trying to flare out the ends, where they attach to the body/thruster. Taper is working...to a degree... but I just cant get that "slope" in the taper.

ok.. here is the pic (attached)

I am trying to "slope" or bevel/taper to give it a more "flowing/aero-dynamic" look.

You could do it by lathing a spline and then (using the stretch tool) squash it on one axis

Thats is exactly what I am trying to do.

But, I can't get that. I made a spline and lathed it, but it doesnt look anything close to that.

Your nearly there

Do a numeric lathe

Lathe on the axis just below it. Not on the center of the geometry

OK, you can see now why I wanted to get that specific look. These are the thusters for some spaceship I am building. I will probably go back and re-work the wings now, using that technique, they need to be a bit bigger, plus I need to add in a few tubes and such on them (the wings)... but anyway, here is what I have so far.

very nice. I guess you don't need any help with lighting!

The lighting in this setup was from Eki's plugpak. It is the "evening sun" setup. So I can't take creadit for the lighting.

I have learnd a ton from his plugin and from books. I mainly use his plugin for exactly what I just did in the above model. I feel quite confident that I could recreate it on my own, but for purposes like this, I'll just use his plugin. It's fast ans simple to use (3 mouse clicks away) When I begin to build the final scene, however, I will do my own light setup. :)
