We've added details to the section on the new tools for editing bones:

http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/product/8/index.php

We've also linked in the videos that Proton has created so far on these topics. More to come!

And this is why it's no problem to wait for Newtek to release LW8!

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for the update, but some links needs fixing. such as ftp://ftp.newtek.com/multimedia/LW8Demos/ bonefuse.avi

please get rid of the space before bonefuse.avi

there are couple more like this.

Thank you,
Nor

We update the Project List regularly. If you have specific projects that you know used LightWave and that we don't have listed, please email or private message NewTek staff, and we will see that they are added. We have a number of additions that will be going up shortly.

Are all the videos thus far just hype for making an upgrade? What's the commitment to on-going/regular video training tutorials coming from NT for LW beyond LW8's release?

Not just, "Sure we'll be doing more" and then they slowly drop to 0, but rather "We're committed to doing 1, 2, 3, etc. a week from now on..."

Allocating some self training budget maaay allow me to help support NT with an upgrade now, but I'm more than a little tilted/bent having been a LW-Mac user only to have to fork out to build a PC to use LW to it's fullest, the LW7.5 OSX.3.x saga and now much of LW8 thus far seems geared to character animation, which I'm not into so roughly $500 is not easily justified here.

Chuck, Proton help me to help you...

The commitment of the current marketing team to training is exemplified in the fact that from the less-than-a-dozen tutorials we inherited, we've expanded the LW tutorial section to well over one hundred in less than two years, and that's not counting the video tutorials, just the HTML tutes. We created the help file version of the docs, and pushed for LW8 having the ability to call the help file in the interface. Doing training videos for a forthcoming product is something new for NewTek marketing that we initiated, and we are nearing forty now and will likely pass that this week. Yes, training videos will be a staple from this point forward, on both the 3D and the video side (two new VT[3] video tutes are going up this week). I would expect that after the release the rate may go to one or two per week, per product.

i'd just like to add that newtek are really looking after their users here...on other 3d apps they'd just point you to a "store" to buy dvd's for $125 each with no free videos on offer at all.

keep up the excellent work people.:D

thats a really cool thing to do Chuck :D the one or two a week after release sound a really good idea because if a number of users are having a problem understanding something a video tut would be a great idea to explain a solution.

A sort of class on demand :)
After a short period of time this would build into a comprehensive guide to new and old users alike using the new tools.

All we need to know now is when the tuts are going to one or two a week :D

and you might look into offering these vids as bittorrent downloads as well ( see courseware2 on eyeon's site ).

This might save you some bandwidth cost in the long run.

Bit torrent bad idea... Because last night I saw a vid entitles, LW8.mpg thinking it was some sort of sigraph video i downloaded the 600+ megs to be greeted with "*** butt 2000"...

If you make a training video or quickstart for LW 8. i hope you include subtitles like MAYA PLE has training videos (quickStart) with subtitles which are great for me as well as other deaf people too cos i'm deaf. If not, don't worry about it cos you have already got the help file version of the docs which will help me to understand it.

P.S. Sorry about my bad english.
