Thanks Proton!

Although I notice that all the most recent videos are still not available as Quicktimes... :(

I'll get with Deuce and see if he can help out!

Thanks for another insight Proton. I've never rigged a character before because the method never encouraged me to try it. This looks a whole lot better though.

Very cool! With all these new bone tool demos youv'e been showing recently, I understand what you meant the many times you said that the current bone tools in LightWave [8] are much better than what the ortho pack was. This is great! :)

Hey! Ortho Pack was pretty good for $65.00. ;)

I can only say one thing about the new bone tools:

****************BIG GRIN***************

When Proton opened the bone connect panel I thought "Wouldn't it be cool if I could connect tail to tip, or say create a bone inbetween..?"
And then these options are on the panel and I get this warm, fuzzy feeling :)))

I bought Ortho Pack too and it's a great tool.
I use it for all my rigs.

The only thing I don't like is the way of moving pivots.
It's not the same as moving nulls or other Layout items.
It only works in "view mode" and it's only usable on Front/back, left/right, and top/bottom. You have to swap evry time from one view to an other.
You can't use it properly in perspective view like you set items position with the actual move tool in Layout.

Selections are not the same too. You can't use mmb only for selecting even if "left mouse button select item" is uncheck.

I hope this new one will be fully integrated in LW Layout ergonomics as well as lots of other tools like "move path" and "spline controle".

LW need to have "the same way of doing" for evry tools. It's so perturbing to have tools with diffrents ergonomics like constant swaping from one software to an other!

Please newtek "unify" ergonomics and tools.

Amen to that !
I agree fully.

Sorry for the double post of this Q?, but I want both Proton and Chuck to address it and I'm not sure both would catch it otherwise.
----------------
Are all the videos thus far just hype for making an upgrade? What's the commitment to on-going/regular video training tutorials coming from NT for LW beyond LW8's release?

Not just, "Sure we'll be doing more" and then they slowly drop to 0, but rather "We're committed to doing 1, 2, 3, etc. a week from now on..."

Allocating some self training budget maaay allow me to help support NT with an upgrade now, but I'm more than a little tilted/bent having been a LW-Mac user only to have to fork out to build a PC to use LW to it's fullest, the LW7.5 OSX.3.x saga and now much of LW8 thus far seems geared to character animation, which I'm not into so roughly $500 is not easily justified here.

Chuck, Proton help me to help you...

now that we are setup to do videos it is much faster then writing a tutorial. We will continue to create videos after 8 ships that cover everything that we can. We will also have written tutorials as well. But I will do video tuts as much as possible.

I have gotten into a habit of creating these before I get my day started and will try and keep up the routine.

I wouldn't want to promise how many you will see a week as it will all depend on schedule :)

I have been helping them out with the conversion and will try and get them done every day when possible as long as Newtek wants the help. It only takes me a few minutes and it leaves Newtek more time to make even more videos :D
