View Full Version : discreet's 3ds max 6 logo

I was just reading about copyright infringement on CNN.com. Some teenager in BC pissed in Microsoft's oatmeal by registering a domain name "MikeRoweSoft". It turns out that Mike Rowe is the kid's actual name and he's fighting Microsoft's demands to turn over his domain to them. Good for him.

This reminded me of discreet's new logo when 3ds max 6 came out. The two entwined snakes are awfully similar to Newtek's curly Lightwave logo, especially LW 8 (same colors). In this case, I think discreet made a poor decision. I wonder what Newtek thinks about this.

Alias has a similar swirl logo now too ... I don't think the logos are similar enough to warrent trademark infringement.

It's buried under press/image library/3dsmax at discreet's site.

i think i read somewhere that the spiral is the first recorded mark ever made by humans. IANAL but I think you'd have a hard time trying to claim that there was no prior art

However, Lw logo is the best I ever seen in 3D softwares!

Eeek! It's the invasion of the spiral logos (http://www.splorp.com/critique/)

LOL! Here's a logo I designed for a marketing company!

Not a true spiral, but similar! :)

Its called advertising today..

These days manufacturers over hype their systems (and movies) to get big launch days.

Dreamcast in my opinion was the best. It still had that old 2D console fun, but with nice 3d graphics.

XBox, GC, PS2... meh. give me a GBA.
