View Full Version : Good, Free Legitimate Webspace w/ no Gimmicks

There are probably a bunch of people here looking for affordable webspace so I wanted to let everyone know about a company called 1AND1. My wife found it actually and asked me to check it out for her. They are offering 3 YEARS of hosting for free. No gimmicks, no hidden fees, no banner ads or popups. This fully legitimate free & clear webspace. I believe they're originally out of the U.K. and are setting up shop here in the states. I did a google search and found nothing bad about them.

You can use both FTP & Frontpage to upload and there are:

· 500 MB web space
· 5,000 MB/month traffic ($.99 per GB for additional traffic)
· No limits on simultaneous hits/bandwidth
· Protected by firewall
· Daily backups of your website
· Advanced live site statistics, log files, ready-to-run CGI-library, own CGI programming (Perl, Python), FrontPage 2002 extensions
· Advanced Password Protection
· 5 FTP accounts
· PHP3 & PHP4
· Proxy SSL Secure Server
· Cron Jobs
· SSH Secure Shell Access
· 50 POP3 e-mail accounts (50 MB each)

I signed up yesterday(1/17/2004) and I've already uploaded and online now. (already had a domain name)

It sounds good, but the monthly bandwidth is low.If your serving around 20gig a month then it becomes expensive in comparission to other plans.

Hi extrabyte,

I’m a customer from 1und1 (or 1and1) for quite a few years, everything went great and I really never heard any complains about this company.

I think they are pretty much the number one “webhosting company” in Germany and are originally from here too. ;)

But never heard about that deal over here, damn.:(

Good , but only available in Canada and in US.....

I signed up for it and it does seem like a good deal. I need to transfer my existing web site over. Right now I pay $25/mo and only get 100 meg of space.

If you don't already have a domain name, I can recommend Powweb. $7.77 a month for two years, with free domain name registration, and a variety of resources including PHP and Front Page. They give you a bandwidth of 5GB a day and 1GB storage...

Here's the website I recently did with them so you can check it for speed: http://www.podpics.org

To Digital Junkie:
I got both the emails and the phone call in less than 30 minutes.

So i don't know why you haven't had a reply yet.

My wife did hers yesterday(the 18th) and hers went the same as mine.

It all went so smoothly. I apologize if you're having a hassle with this.

And to Riki:
I just figured it would be a good way for people to post their images, portfoloios and demo reels for the cost of a domain name.
