View Full Version : newbie surface mapping question

Hi, I am trying to surface a simple sphere, but my surface map (pict format) won't seam properly. At the seam, it gets this ziz-zag pattern, based on the top few pixels of the map-as if it were stretched along the seam. I can't seem to get it to work properly.

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?

This sounds like something I always see in the OpenGL previews, though in my case, the seam appears to contain a highly squashed/reversed copy of the entire texture, as in this example I knocked up quickly.

Have you tried rendering it anyway? My final renders never exhibit this issue.

Does it show up in the render - or just opengl displays?

UV Map, or plain Spherical projection?

What version are you using?

If you are using a UV Map, the the chances are, it *Is* stretched.
Try this:
Make a blank UV Map - any sort, it doesn't matter.
Select the sphere tool.
Press n to get the numeric panel up click on Make UV's at the bottomof the panel.
Drag out a sphere, and voila - perfect mapping.

Thanks guys. It was the OpenGL thing. It renders just fine. What a pain in the ***.
