View Full Version : Importing objects from another scene... How to have them be non destructive copies.

I'm using Lightwave for film previz.
To speed up workflow, I built a scene containing objects I regularly use, such as lighting objects and modifiers regular used on a film set.
But when I import these into a new scene and modify the objects surface parameters, the original objects are altered. So other scenes using these objects are ruined.

What's the best way to do this? Is there a way to import objects form another scene and have them automatically copied?

Thanks in advance for any ideas / thoughts.

This might be an aspect of OD UberPass ( https://vimeo.com/showcase/4335852/video/267476272 ) or the OD Tools ( https://origamidigital.com/cart/index.php?route=product/product&path=59_60&product_id=57 ).

That's an excellent question and I look forward to better answers than mine.

What I do is open the original scene and the use the Package Scene command to save the scene and its assets to another content directory before making any changes.

You should also take a look at OD Tools, Add Scene References: https://vimeo.com/282515163

This revolutionized how I set up scenes.

related, one can also set the object to "read only" in windows explorer.

also like lertola2 says, check Package Scene.

OD Tools might be good for the purpose, but can't say, haven't tried the OD Scene Ref plugin.
