I've gotten confirmation of manpower support for the NAB Party again this year. Now for the hardest part.

Yes it's money. Last year thanks to some last minute cash donations, I was only out a few hundred bucks. But it was too close for comfort.
If I can get some early commitments, (and a promise to get the checks in when I call for them), I'd like to start the ball rolling.

You can post your commitment here or e-mail me.
Make the e-mail header obvious like "NAB PARTY". Nothing with the words "Huge" or "viagra"!:p ;) :)

Also suggestions for the party are welcome. Just remember, if it's a great idea, you might get to make it happen!:cool:

We had some great sessions last year and I'd like to keep it at about the same level of informative and social.

Also prize donations are welcome. But you'll need to either bring the prize, (pre-announced for organization), or ship it to Ron Gratreaks who will organize them and bring them. No Refrigerators please!:p

Talk to your dealers and tell your friends. The fundraiser has begun.


P.S. the sooner I have confirmation, the sooner I can reserve the space. If it's not too much or too late, I might try for the Hilton this year. The walk at the MGM last year was rediculous.

I guess nobody wants a party!:(

I've been trying to look into the Hilton, no not Paris, but they seem to have to run everything through the NAB committee and so far it's nothing but a runaround.
Maybe the MGM is looking better and better.

Count me in for 2004!

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it out this year but consider books and training as give-aways.

That's too bad Dan. You were a great part of the party and will be missed this year.

I hope the party is still going to happen, but not one contribution has been offered yet, and the MGM and Hilton want a reservation deposit soon.

MGM was tooooo big. I think it was about 4 miles from the front door :)

That "Walk" last year is why I'm looking into the Hilton, or the MGM better offer a closer space to an entrance.

The prizes are fantastic Dan, thanks. But it's the ZERO dollars so far that concerns me.:(

Maybe it's time to let it go.

Well I finally got through to the MGM and all they can "for sure" give us is next to last years room, about 50' closer to the Koval entrance.;)

I've spent all week trying to get the Hilton to allow me to talk with them. I guess NAB committee owns them that week???
I finally got approval from NAB, now the Hilton needs to call me back.

Would you guys mind the MGM again? It wold be much easier since we've got the details worked out and I have them trained!!!:p

I now have a paypal account since so many people said they would send tons of donations if I did this!;)

I DON'T want any money sent yet. But I am asking for confirmation of donations before I make the commitment for the space.

So far only Dan Ablan has offered $150 towards the event. Really great since he might not even be there. Thanks Dan!!!

You can e-mail your commitment if you like.
I'm really hoping some dealers come through big time along with every person who owns a NewTek product.

Donations will be posted here and at the party. If you want to stay anonymous, let me know. But send some confirmation SOON, PLEASE. Toast 04 is about to go up in TOAST!:(

I won't be at the show, but I'll be at SIGGRAPH.

I'm also a PayPal user - so just let me know when and we'll set you up.

Also, my publisher will donate a few "Inside LightWave 8" books as well as "LightWave 8 Killer Tips." They'll be out this spring.

AGA Digital Studios, Inc. will also donate two free sets of 3D Garage Courseware for LightWave.

Thanks Jim. I finally got some time, (1am Wednesday morning), and did some homework and signed up for the Business account.
I hate to see Paypal take money from the event, but if it helps keep the traditoin alive, so be it!

Here is a proposed outline and info for the NAB NewTek party.

"Sponsors": I'm thinking about offering 6-8 tables for vendors set up around the room. The cost-"Donation" would be $250 for a 6-foot table. Some would have power, maybe 4; so if you need a spot with power, reserve it SOON.

This would give the event more of a NewTek product EXPO feel showing 3rd party products available, (we need to support these guys).
It would also keep it more INFORMAL for socializing. I got some great input that last year was approaching too much of a structured event for just visiting.

Speeches: minimal, maybe a few 5 minute talks with Tim, Paul, Andrew etc. on the hour, 7-11pm.
Maybe we could do a Q&A, allowing them to say No Comment on areas they'd rather avoid. Understandably so.

Prizes: Most people said the Prizes went too long. (Partly due to about 75 prizes being brought in unannounced, which was a good thing in a way).
Maybe cut it down to about 5 or so per hour, 7-11pm. If it gets too crazy, (which is GREAT!!!!!), we might combine some smaller prizes, which helped last year at the end.

Food and Bar: I really want to keep this as before. But for now I could reserve the space if we get enough quick responses, and add the food and bar later if enough people contribute.

The Hilton could have given us the space, but had another company/event they had concerns might "Conflict" with. So they were already making restrictions on signage, what could be done, etc.
I've got a call to the MGM and will probably go with them again. Besides, we've got the details pretty smoothed out with them so it should make my job easier.

I just got confirmation that Bob Tasa will be there showing his wares!
