Can someone help me with cracking the code on setting up and rendering alpha's in LW2019 so I can import a rendered layer with transparent background for subsequent editing in Photoshop? Enclosed are the background and foreground renders along with two screen shots showing my render settings. Thanks in advance!

If you want transparent bg in final render then save in PNG32 format.

32-bit image formats (e.g. the PNG32 format recommended by MarcusM) contain the alpha channel without having to render it as a separate sequence. So, just specify PNG32 (or other xxx32 format) as the Final Render output format, and PhotoShop should find the alpha channel within it.

These days everybody should render HDRI like OpenEXR or so.. The more bits per channel (obviously RGBA!), the better..

yeah for simplicity use 32bit png.

for control use exr. i generally use exr half.

use the free https://www.exr-io.com exr plugin for photoshop.
it has an option to apply the alpha if you wish so itís like png

it also colourises greyscale surface ids as a option, if i recall correctly.

Thanks everyone! The 32bit PNG worked fine.
