Hello, Lightwave people, I've run into another problem. I'm working on a model of a UFO, and the cursor has become stuck in Points mode. Tried the space bar-nothing. Tried the tool panel-nothing. Tried trashing the Prefs (I'm on a Mac)-nothing. I can't get the cursor to operate in any mode other than Points, in any file. Changed files-same problem. I haven't tried trashing the whole install of Lightwave and re-installing it, but that's next, if I don't get it running right.

Thank you very much. That was the problem. I might have figured that out after retracing my steps, but it would have taken hours. You saved me a lot of time.

That seems like a bug. At the very least, that behavior should be documented (the docs entry for "fine detail cursor" makes no mention of it), but pragmatically there's no reason why changing the cursor appearance should have such side effects.

I wasn't able to easily reproduce on a quick test, is there a reliable repro to trigger the "locked in points mode" misbehavior? If I can reliably repro, I'll file a bug.

Aside, forum's really on a double-posting tear today. Ugh.

Hi John,

Please also file a bug report about the docs - things like this are too easily missed in such a transient form. It's pure chance that I'm in this thread...

BeeVee, I'll go ahead and file a bug about the docs if you want, but as I can't reproduce the issue here, not quite sure what I'm supposed to file w.r.t. fine detail cursor docs.

Is the long-term expectation really to have fine detail cursor locking users into points mode? That really seems kind of nonsensical, as there are presumably non-points cases where the fine detail cursor could be useful.

I don't know how is it on MAC but on Windows that "fine detail cursor" it just means cursor is always that cross like for points but selection models poly/point/edges still work fine, it's just cursor which stays same way and it's been that way since that feature appeared. I can't say i like that mode nor see it's usability but it's not "stuck" in points selection only on windows.

Your reply was enough to poke me into action, so I updated the page: https://docs.lightwave3d.com/display/LW2018/Modeler+Display+Options
