View Full Version : Editing LW's wikipedia entry

Hey all,

Earlier today I looked LW up on the Wikipedia and noticed its history section hadn't been updated since the release of 2018.0.1 so I added releases and dates, based on Chuck's forum posts, for all of the versions leading up to 2019.0.1 but couldn't find any info on 2018.0.3. Was that number skipped?

LightWave 2018.0.3 Released March-29-2018

Thanks MarcusM but ultimately I guess it didn't matter since the Wikipedia gods removed my edits so now it looks like 2018 is, once again, the latest version! Probably because I didn't use any citations.

Thanks for trying to update that. Unfortunately, I've found Wikipedia has more to do with the Wiki editor's perception of reality than with reality.

The attempted edits are in the history and I'd have to agree with their removal. The patches are not relevant. As you can see from the existing entry, major releases are best noted with what features were introduced. When I'm back at a desktop I might give it a shot.

An update has been submitted for LW2019.

It was challenging.

As noted for a decade at the top of the article:

This article relies too much on references to primary sources. (May 2007)
This article needs additional citations for verification. (May 2008)

Wikipedia does not want to be a dumping ground for marketing. It expects third parties (media reviews, scholarly articles, etc) to be the source of information; not the software developer. Guess how many of these reviews can be found online right now? Zero. Is it too early to expect something for LW2019? Maybe. But I can't even find this type of article for LW2018.

I could only find a couple reputable web sites that regurgitated NT's press release. I used one as a reference.

CGChannel's articles on 2018 and 2019 go well beyond the press release:

CGChannel's articles...

Thanks. I had read those articles before and was searching for them this morning without success (looking for the trademarked "Lightwave 3D" in the googles). CGChannel doesn't use the right name anywhere on those pages.
