Just launched LW2018 for the fist time and right away I see there's some significant differences with the surface editor. I'm sure there's other stuff as well so are there any tutorials to save me from stumbling around in the dark for the next 6 months? I did a search on here and didn't find anything.

This post in an earlier thread has some suggestions:

and here's a direct pointer to the Rebel Hill playlist on LW2018 Lighting, Shading and Rendering:

I'm working on putting a page together with some of the tutorials I find most helpful. I'm just focusing on free ones for now. I would love to see someone update LightWave Essentials (the book) to 2018. It came with a companion DVD and was incredibly helpful to my overall understanding and appreciation of the program.

Instead of putting together yet another distinct site, why not instead add to the (existing) LW docs' listing of user-created tutorials (https://docs.lightwave3d.com/display/LW2018/User-created+Tutorials)?

I agree wholeheartedly with your take on Lightwave Essentials. In fact, all the helpful aftermarket books like it, e.g., Lightwave Applied and Inside Lightwave, dropped off the face of the earth after version 10. Meanwhile, the interface has been changed bit by bit so that some of the written tutorials work, some don't, because of some minor shift that may be a non-issue to someone familiar with the app, but to someone trying to use it for the first time, it's a leg-breaker. Progress ceases.
