Name change. Search Lightwave3d “unofficial” Support Group. Loads of fantastic stuff you won’t find on here!

i guess it has something to do with new Facebook policy, since i can't access those pages without a login
https://www.google.com/search?q=Lightwave3d+unofficial+Support+Group

good to hear it's still up & running   :)

There is a thread in this forum giving regular updates of things appearing in the current Lightwiki Facebook forum:

https://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?157443-LightWiki-LightWave3D-Unofficial-Support-Group-Midweek-Highlights

It's very useful as the forum itself can be a pain to search through due it being on Facebook :(

yep, great links, unfortunately not available to non-Facebookers anymore  https://i.imgur.com/HcL3izn.gifOK, now I see the problem. Last week, clicking on any of those links took you to the appropriate Facebook page with a prompt to get you to log in but with the thread still visible and readable. Now, all you get is this message:

'Sorry, something went wrong.

We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.

Go Back '

Looks like something is going on. Also, just checked and the links work fine...if you are already logged in to Facebook. Looks like you're right erikals, Facebook have changed things to a 'members only' viewing policy.

And that's why I dislike Facebook so much.

Honestly surprised that it took this long.

There's no evidence Facebook changed anything. It is likely that publishing preferences were changed when the group changed.

Other groups are still visible.

Someone (a group admin) probably just needs to jiggle the handle. However, the change may have been intentional to motivate people to sign-up and contribute.

I just automatically reached the conclusion that it was something Facebook had done based on past experience of how things seem to work on there :)

I hope that's not the case. Lightwiki has some great information and discussions, but I won't ever sign up for Facebook.

A privacy concern? Even if you don't have a Facebook account, Facebook likely has your data.

You can either use browser add-ons like Privacy Badger to truly block Facebook (and its associates) or dive on in to the Facebook hivemind. There's no middle ground.

###

There was a recent LW/Facebook discussion about expanding the LW user base. We need to share discussion outside of newtek.com to where potential users are. That's Facebook and other 3D forums.

Mostly due to work but I've also seen second-hand how simple things quickly turn into oceans of drama on Facebook, intentionally or otherwise. I like to keep my drama on TNT where it belongs ;)

I think there are a lot of outlets that could be used to expand and share Lightwave. Certainly Facebook is one, but it doesn't even crack the top ten for me when I am looking for information on an application or tutorials, training, etc.

permalink has always been consistent - its still groups/LightWiki , the group name has changed but all links should have not, although I did notice a bug regarding facebook structuring of links... seems to be when the implemented Units into the groups - https://www.facebook.com/groups/lightwiki/ its a public group , but you should still be able to read everything even without logging in.

edit I see the something is wrong when you try to access it not logged in... bug reported

the reason I know its the same link is because ..
<<<<< Midweek Highlights 21/09/2018 >>>>>

see here https://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php?157443-LightWiki-LightWave3D-Unofficial-Support-Group-Midweek-Highlights&p=1555030&viewfull=1#post1555030

the only thing I can think of regarding links , is the units , we now have a thing called "learning units" which means I can reference and build courses with a progress meter ... that might tweak the url, as for not being on facebook , not much I can do about that best solution I can think of is I pass everything over to NT and they can make a blog post or something.

cheers - hangout tonight at 10:30pm UK time if you need to ask a question

What other places do you suggest? Where do the kids hang out these days? The last place I lingered was the cg-char mailing list.

yeah sorry it was issue with me being the admin ... there's a certain irony there, however removing myself corrected the url, it must be a permalink conflict running with our page.
anyway sorry about any issue's caused. midweek highlights should now work again.
