View Full Version : wireframe AA in View Ports?

For some time now, and at least two different nVidia cards (Quadro K2000 and P1000), I've been unable to get any of the driver's AA settings to work in any version of either Modeler or Layout's viewports. Does LW simply ignore the GPU driver settings and substitute its own, non-AA settings, even when the vid card is told to override application settings? Specifically, wireframe lines/edges remain stair-stepped after changing driver properties (even after closing/relaunching Mod/Lay). Layout is the only app that has a "Grid Antialiasing" option, but none for wireframes/edges, and none in Modeler Display Options.

Anyone get their cards to AA the viewports?

Pretty sure thats something that would have to be added by NT. In Modo for instance, AA wireframes is a feature of the advanced viewport and not available in any other type of viewport.

Yes..I got it to work, you may want to check this thread..but it may depend on your graphics card and lw version maybe, running 2015.3 here.

Here it is again - the famous yearly question about viewports and AA.

What LW3D Group decided to be the default (watch at 100%):
142577

What I decided to use (watch at 100%):
142576

142578

Card = Quadro K6000

If settings in the Nvidia Control Panel do not work as expected it might be the internal profiles.

What I did:

Searched for "Geforce 3D Profile Manager" (even though it says GEFORCE it works for Quadro as well).
Used the "Export SLI Profiles" button
142579
Opened the resulting text file and searched for the entries that it contained for Modeler / Layout (I think Modeler was "microwave studio" or so)
Deleted all those entries
Imported the altered text back in ("Import SLI Profiles")
In Nvidia Control Panel I made a new custom set for Modeler and Layout
Out of curiosity I checked the profiles text after making a new profile
142581
Was happy because got AA in viewports

EDIT
Below information is wrong:
Checked again. Frame Buffer does not cause lagging. Seems so, sub-d on the objects is it. I'll test more.

Wrong ------
Important:
In Layout GL settings I needed to switch off "Frame Buffer Object" because it caused a horrible lagging (not checked in Modeler - it was off there anyway).
142580

What the documentation says about it:
"Frame Buffer Object - accelerates color correction (slightly)"

???
Wrong end -----

Cross checked:
Lag came from sub-d display. Changed "Display SubPatch Level" to 1 for all objects. Lag is gone now.

EDIT 2:
Cross checked with AA set back to "Application controlled" (= no AA). Lag is still there with "Display SubPatch Level" > 1.

Here it is again - the famous yearly question about viewports and AA.LOL. Well, I usually search the forums, but 90% of the time, such returns nothing relevant. So, thought I'd hit it up with a new post.

Thanks! That was helpful, except finding the profile tool. Here is where I finally found it (via a one word link in a forum post to another customer service post with this direct link) Geforce 3D Profile Manager (https://nvidia.custhelp.com/ci/fattach/get/138717/0/filename/Geforce+3D+ProfileManager).

However, when I did the rest of these steps, Modeler & Layout (2015 & 2018) still didn't AA, so I exported the profiles again, in order to get the Modeler & Layout profiles that I had just manually added via nVidia Ctrl Panel, edited them to match your screen cap, imported, and BINGO! View ports were now AAing. So, just for giggles, I exported the profiles again to compare them to the one I just imported. Behold, extra parameters were added, most likely due to newer version of driver, etc.

So that no one else has to manually type in the params by looking at a screen cap, here they are as text (EDIT PATHS TO MATCH YOUR INSTALLATIONS)...

Sorry to not post a link to the profile manager. I had forgotten that I also found it more or less by accident while searching for an AA solution.

Here it is again - the famous yearly question about viewports and AA.

This was meant as my feeling about the status of AA. Year after year this question comes up and still no native AA in LW viewports. I really hope LW3DG will take care of this and other UI optimizations in the near future.
