Yes it was great. A few hundred shots in a few weeks - impressive, and intruiging they weren't particularly hot for Maya even at a production level. When they say "shot", do they mean finished as the viewer would see it or do they mean each separate bit of one scene ? It would be interesting to know the typical VFX budget for the type of film they were working on. It was also fascinating what they said about people more talented than themselves who were not getting work. And did I see Kopperdrake and Tobian in the audience ?

I would have gone up in person to the last couple of Expos, but the transport situation in the Midlands back to my city is a nightmare, essentially stranded at night. But it was nice to think most of those faces in the audience were possibly 'Wavers. Any LW action in London ? We get coaches there every twenty mins.

Happy New Year everyone.

:)

Paul Knott in damn right about speed - (in several cases)

took Blender (2.8) for a test run today, and it is nice for some stuff,

but when i just want to poly-model something like an interior or a creature, LightWave just kicks in comparison.

For creatures in blender, you may want to go with the skin modifier, this allows you to alter the main shape at many stages, before copying or committing to applying the skind modifier, then sculpting to further enhance it, it would need
retopo of course.

Not arguing against, but can you specify why you feel Lightwave kicks in comparison...may it be that you may be so customed to all the lw tools and how to work the polys in a way you yet may have to discover in blender?

basically the Ui of blender.
the shortcuts don't make sense, or a logical shortcut is replaced by a customized one, or inconsistency in the Ui overall.
too bad really, but not exactly news.

I understand and I can agree with a lot of that.

and forms. I was happy to see a different way of doing things, and of thinking. These links are very nice.

Just watched your showreel... love it.

All feels very nice indeed, and not a single poor shot in there. Short, engaging and awesome work :) Engineering stuff can be a little dry at times, but you've nailed the realism versus excitement balance, with the cam shakes and dust plumes. I'll say it again, awesome stuff! :)
