View Full Version : LightWave Eight Demo Videos- Part 2

12-29-2003, 08:07 AM
Back from The break and we have two new videos for your to grab and enjoy. The expression editor video shows a quick example of creating an expression using nodes, while the Hard link Demo shows a few new features in Modeler as well as a taste of the new Scene Editor. The meat of the Hard Link demo is showing off a very powerful feature of using the new dynamics. Enjoy!

Sweet ;)

A small glimps of Modeler...

Cheers Proton.

I Love it

Thanks Proton. I hope your feeling better.

Can someone please put these on a www site. It seems I can't access ftp sites from work.

Great videos.

Will you be showing some dope sheet animations?

Also I like the new layout of buttons. Especally the sets being added to bottom of screen. What is the C for? Haven't figured it out yet?

very cool, I noticed that volume in modeler is gone. I rarely used it, so it isn't a big deal to me.

A dope sheet demo would be very cool too!

Thanks, Proton!
The videos are really nice, could you show some new features of Rendering and Modeler... thanks

12-29-2003, 09:45 AM
Very Nice!

Thanks alot, Proton! :)

Huuuge thx Proton!!

More videos as well as a feature page soon to follow

Thanks Proton.

Looking foward to the feature page.

Here are two cool grabs from Bob Hood showing off the Expression Editor.

Anyone else note jointmorphplus in the deformation drop down? At about 4:15....

Hey Proton. Would it be possible to have smaller, lower quality versions of the demo videos. I'm on modem and it takes one and a half to two hours to download each of the demo videos. I'm very interested in looking at these videos but they are just too big for me to download.

12-29-2003, 11:35 AM
Deuce is working on a few as he finds time...Hopefully they will be up sometime soon.

12-29-2003, 11:42 AM
nice video's...if anyone is having trouble getting them within a 2 hour 56k modem session [as some isp's dial you off after 2 hrs when on 56k lines] go over n get corel's "get me right" to allow incremental download sessions.

Took us 15 sec to get this videos. Thanks Proton can't wait to crack them open and watch.

Thanks for the videos Proton... they are great!

I'm waiting eagerly for the feature page since I believe we weren't told nearly all there will be in LightWave [8]. :)

Proton, please, tell us about after/befor IK switching in new expressions system?

Funny, the expression editor reads from the right to the left.

Maybe translated from the Hebrew. :)

I know this might seem a little funny, but there are node based programs that work in that direction. :)

Wow. Hardlink looks great!

12-29-2003, 04:04 PM
Proton, the fact that you chose "polygon" for Hardlink, does that mean each monkey was a single mesh object?
If each monkey were made of multiple objects, would you have to setup point sets for this trick to work?
Will it work if the monkeys were point sets and cloned?

I hope my questions are sensible.

Outstanding features presented in outstanding videos.

But: Is this the final UI? I hope the user can set the colors individually... ;)

Thank You for keeping us up to date!!

Cman, as proton said the monkeys were all one layer, but the meshes aren't connected. Polygon, from what I can tell, links each polygon to one of the points in the clothFX 2 point poly chain. It seems to have a smart way of doing this, but it can be changed manually.

If it was multiple meshes you may have to use selection sets, but if lightwave assigns the polys in the 'smart' way I think it does then you wouldn't have to in most cases.

By cloned, do you mean as in 4 different objects? monkey(1), monkey(2) etc ? That way it'd probably be easier to do it as 1piecs (is that a spelling mistake Proton?) and link each clone of the object to a seperate node.

Maybe Proton will give you more correct answers, but from what I have seen this is what I'm presuming.

I missed the previous explanation about the monkeys.
Yes, Monkey(1), Monkey(2) is what I meant by cloning.

I have to admit the Hardlink feature is quiet cool.... let 's think about other uses than a monkey ... he he.... (in arch viz monkeys are pretty rare, uless it's for a zoo... he he)

Thanks Proton.. Da man...!

Does FX_HardLink and FX_MetaLink (which I'm guessing is the new and improved version of MD_MetaPlug) work in realtime? So if we change parameters in the original/cage Cloth_FX or Soft_FX object do they update immediatly... no having to save and load *.mdd files or simular? If so, then waaaay cool!

12-30-2003, 03:58 AM
It looks like that is the case. Notice that after Proton did the cloth simulation on the 2 point poly chain he applied FX_HardLink and didn't have to calculate anything.

12-30-2003, 07:42 AM
The general ease with which he was able to apply the HardLink would suggest that such is the case. But the HardLink was applied after the clothFX simulation/calculation had been done, simular to how the situation is with MD - Calculate, save mdd, load mdd. The HardLink itself would require no calculation as it is just a displacement plugin (bit of an understatement) based on another objects deformation.

If he had applied the MetaLink first and done the SoftFX last we would've known for sure, but that would have been kind of a wierd workflow. But it does seem very likely.

We want more videos, Proton! More, more!
