Hey just wanted to know if anybody had anything to say about two aspects of Lightwave 2018. I haven't had enough time to keep my eyes on the forums or newtek posts.

Is there a new modeler on the horizon? I completed a survey a few months ago, and based on some of the questions they were asking, there might be some heavily needed and welcome improvements to modeler.

Also, why the absolute zero additions to the 'learning' page on the lightwave website? I would have thought a new version of Lightwave, after such a long wait would warrant some tutorials on it's new features.

Overall, I've found 2018 a bit peppier & quite stable. Can't say I've really pushed it hard, but not seeing crashes or oddities for the most part where I definitely was with 2015 after this much time.

Modeler hasn't had any major overhaul but seems as if some new tools have slipped in. All in all, there's really not much I find it lacking in for what I do. Usually, someone has created a script or plug-in to deal with specific tasks anyway such as LWCad or Oliver Hotz's OD Tools..

This series is extracted from one he's soon to release but allowed some early bird copies. Very worthwhile series to pick up when you can. Not only explains the differences & what aspects they affect, his workflow to using the Nodal surfacing & new render buffers really makes sense & probably not something you'd hit on by yourself.

That being said, much of the forum chatter on fireflys, noise etc. I suspect are mostly self inflicted from simply not bothering to take the time to learn how the new system is all inter-connected. So, they'll flail about.

The BB-8 clip from the series for example was using only 1-2 samples in most areas, and 1-2 mins/frame render.

Per modeler, you know as much as anybody does based on the Survey. I don't think anything more has been said.

Re: training materials, AFAIK no one has been hired to act as an evangelist/training content creator to replace Lino (as he replaced William several years ago). But some knowledgeable users sometimes post YouTube videos to try to fill the gap to some extent. Your best bets are: 1) the good on-line documentation BeeVee is maintaining and extending, YouTube, Facebook LightWiki, and here.

Sorry, I can't "speak to this". But it would certainly MAKE SENSE.

I've wondered for a long time about why a company is willing to pay a dev to work long and hard on any given feature, but won't take five minutes to just SIT DOWN AND TALK TO THEM about said feature, film it, and let the paying customers watch the conversation.

Resources may be tight, but that is about as minimal an effort as you can expend. And it STILL doesn't get done.

When chatter on the fora reveals it's obvious there's some confusion, TAPE THE DEV EXPLAINING IT. No editing, just straight to YouTube. Chum the waters with some knowledgable blather.

Seems obvious.

Who is it that is a fan of Nebulaes...except for me? some of you did some research there:)


Also to note, whispy clouds (which could be enhanced to nebulaes as well, with coloring according to descriptions in the blog)...it can get much softer look and depth and with cubic primitives ..a little easier and better than old hvs for this.
