This looks very promising....

Nice - hopefully soon is now as tomorrow never dies and hopefully this is just the start of the new wave of advances built on 2018 and the years of under the hood changes that took place. Very interested here for sure.

A nice case of "Cough. Splutter. What the....!?"

And a fine return from Lino, couldn't keep the artist down. :)

very nice and finally, though I hope it also can work as a standard sculpting tool as well..to some degree, not expecting blender level yet though, perhaps also transcend to a better combing tool for hair.
The vid is paced up though, so the actual speed of deforming and sculpting doesn´t come through properly.

It's a modifier useful to generate corrective morphs. More similar to Messiah's Point Animation effect!
Other "painting" related features may be coming after version 1.0. ;)

LW has moved forwards, but it does add to the fascination about what precisely happened during the silence because there was a feeling that both Rob and Lino were past tense, but that appears to not be entirely the case, which is quite heartening.

so is this newtek or third party plugin?

01-29-2018, 04:08 PM
third party

01-29-2018, 04:11 PM
third party

On the video, the Animated Sculpt floating menu seems (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=9&v=WRCv4TakYQg#t=24s)to have the LW logo on the bar ?

01-29-2018, 04:13 PM
yes, but Youtube thread concludes third party >

This is a third party plugin, not NewTek's!  ;)

Unintentionally pedantic of me. Exciting anyway. :)

01-29-2018, 04:21 PM
been waiting Years for this function   :)

This should have been included with LightWave about five years ago. Glad to see it exists now. If this is a plugin, how much is it?

01-29-2018, 04:59 PM
cost? no idea...

This clearly required a deform stack to be feasible which in turn probably required a partial if not a full rewrite of the core.
So I'm going to go on a whim to say this must be one of the benefits of the "under the hood changes" that we've heard over the last few years.
They've obviously been very busy at the core, which means less time for writing fancy stuff but that's more comforting than writing on rusty base which doesn't inspire confidence as far as the future of lw is concerned.
They are on the right path.

3rd Powers comes to my mind.

01-30-2018, 05:46 AM
3rd Power's sculpting tools don't work in layout and their latice tools are quiet different from this.

01-30-2018, 07:30 AM
yeah my bets 3rd powers. there’s only a few 3rd party devs now isn’t there? perhaps a free copy of lw to anyone who makes plugins. need moar plugins! :)

01-30-2018, 08:08 AM
Likely 3rd Powers will be rocking the boat with some new and upgraded tools. If this is part of what they have in the pipeline great if not we are going to see a nice expansion of tools and offerings from a growing list of 3d party devs. LWcad is picking up steam as they underwent a full rewrite as well and have stated more is to come. While I would have rather been here sooner here we are and the pace is picking up.

01-30-2018, 11:51 AM
Isn't 3rd Powers a Japanese firm ? The Lino Youtube header says "Great coding work by Jamil Halabi!" who I think may be this guy (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrMf0-tI75oU8hDn-PvG8Nw), so it doesn't seem like 3rd Powers were involved.

01-30-2018, 02:57 PM
aah, so that's the guy :)

yeah, i remember Jay3D coding some dynamics stuff waay back

01-30-2018, 03:29 PM
Then that's even better we have yet another powerful developer!

01-30-2018, 04:01 PM
indeed!  :king:

01-31-2018, 01:44 AM
so is this newtek or third party plugin?

Third party of course. Since NT brilliantly fired Lino. Along with his wife Johanna who did our newsletters. Way to go NT!

On the bright side though, now he has the time and freedom to work with others to bring us awesome tools we otherwise never would have seen any time soon.

01-31-2018, 10:26 AM
Bring it on!!
