View Full Version : Import a list of co-ordinates to modeller as points? LW 11.6

I have a fairly long list of point coordinates, (currently sitting in an Excel spreadsheet).

I really don't want to type in hundreds of them by hand!
Does anyone know a handy way of importing them directly?

Aha managed to find a fix for this myself surprisingly fast

I took a look at the wikipedia page on the Wavefront OBJ format, and tried using excel to make a text file which looks like this, (first line is a comment).

# List of geometric vertices, with (x,y,z[,w]) coordinates
v 7.8 0 0
v 7.591480986 0.41203992 0
v 7.059004002 0.79202 0
v 6.24097527 1.114484999 0
v 5.194792353 1.358134987 0
v 3.992761264 1.507228732 0
v 2.717043026 1.552596015 0

When I saved this out as OBJ, Lightwave was able to open it, the points were there, and preserved the point order, (which is handy).

In this video tutorial I showed how to import CSV file in Node Editor (could be used in Displacement Node Editor to move point)

Excel, OpenOffice, can export CSV. It can be generated by script also.
