Hi--

Can someone please share how I can use AO maps? I'm not seeing anywhere to plug it in on the material nodes. Do I need to blend it with albedo?

Thank you!

Nobody write comment like: "Why you want use AO maps when now we have PBR shader and new lighting, you want fake real world with AO?" - I saw something like this on FB or forum...

In Standard shader color -> color, AO -> diffuse
In Principled BSDF color, AO -> A,B multiply -> color (this shaders is darker than standard)

Presuming you're trying to use it for diffuse effect, and using principled material (or some other mat that's not standard)... simply (vector) multiply your colour (or colour map) by the AO map.

See why here...

I made video tutorial how to make CLEAN global Ambient Occlusion pass in LW 2018.0 and LW 2018.0.1.

I knew it would be simple. Thanks.

@RH - thanks for the video!

So are you saying that with PBR, ambient occlusion is not necessary? I like AO for contact "shadows".

Clean AO, baked to image map, loaded from disk, can greatly speed up rendering, as there is no need to send dozen of rays to scene.. It will work as long as there is no moving objects.

Smart baking can save dozen of hours during rendering of animation.

No, it was irony ;]

unfortunately you have to jam the ao via a blend on the colour. It would be helpful to have an ao slot to plug into. perhaps devs will add one.

I agree. I asked mainly because I'm starting to work with Substance Designer/Painter and they export AO maps for all kinds of reasons.
