I mean, like wow.....

I remember the early pitches a year or two ago.. but this is gorgeous...

this stuff is rough, but how it demonstrates SSS is incredible...

If only to inspire us...

Do we hear.. LW 8.5!?!?!?! :D

I think this image ...

illustrates the difference so well... So long have I looked at my renders looking like the image on the left and wondered "whats missing".

Thanks james, but the goal was to get it integrated into LW's renderer... Heck, the G2 system is a great example of the direction LW should go with previewing... Seems like after LW 6, the momentum for further viper development has stopped.

I'm really curious to see how NT addresses this as their attact on Char animation in 8 is pretty impressive. Seems like DEVELOPMENT at NT for LW will be more in stages. where the weight of a release will be felt in one area of LW.. i.e modeling, workflow, Char anim, etc. This being in contrast to 6-like releases where various aspects of the program goes through a whole change

I doubt you can really hold NT to any new standard of releases due to LW8. I mean you have to take into account the shake up with the whole Lux thing. I have noticed several very talented plugin writters who have either sold thier plugins to NT or who have gone to work for them. If they could give out how to do a G2 light that would change the face of lightwave forever. If you have not "played" with G2 it is hard to understand its true power. I have owned it since the first week it was available to the public, and I still manage to find something new every time I use it. If the price tag were not so high it would be a no brainer for every lightwave user to own.
All that said I think your right a SSS function built into LW would be nice :D

I'm pretty sure skin only looks like that about a week after you are dead. They all look VERY waxy like the person setting up the render was pushing the shading style TOO far.

yeah, like I said, its rough, but it illustrates the technology and the function. the fact that its not subtle does hit you over the head, but it also shows both extremes.. as artist we can dial it all back. The images from the website mad eme say.. yeah, i can work from there...

It was not an exercise in photoreal, but on ind displaying this high speed SSS

G2 looks good but a bit pricey.

yeah, I got it at the introductory price... Played with it heavily early on, then 2D became too demanding, and now I'm in it again...

I have a bit of fear of plugin, especially ones that commit a great portion of your work to it.. i.e G2 for shading or messiah for animation. Their development cycle doesn;t always mirror NT's, so my fear is the loss of support through a release...

G2 is great.. I can vouch for that. Hikari and its sister plugin (taiki) is on hold from the developer. There's no word when he'll release new versions.

Hikari is a production ready plugin. you take a hit on speed but all the bugs I emailed the developer with were fixed in the latest release.

I don't think the SSS of G2 is very good.
