Hello guys!
Here is 1 of 4 short ads we did for Devoto Supermarket in Uruguay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBPDIlVfrgM

As soon as I get the ok I will post the others ans some pics.
I set it without FiberFX. I tried it though, but the result was not looking "soft" enough for this type of fur plus all the problems we already know FFX has.

Hope you like it!

I love it. Very nice. They're stylized enough that I didn't miss "furry" feathers.

Very well done! Were these rigged and animated in Lightwave?

Yes, that's a great commercial IMO, humorous, concise, very well done. It'd be great to see a "making of" to see what was real life and what was CGI, including what all was done in LW - as Nicolas Jordan asked, were the toucans also rigged and animated in LW or just modeled?. Is everything besides the woman CGI and green-screened (if she's CGI, the artist is astonishing!), or are the office walls / desk / monitor, etc. real and the toucans composited in? The depth-of-field really made it work and was nice and subtle.

Good job!

All CGI is Lightwave, model, texture, fake fur, animation, render. And the only CGI is the Toucans. Thank you all!

Thanks for the details! Really excellent job matching the live footage for lighting, depth-of-field (including changing DOF), consistent size and perspective on the toucans, and so forth.

Excellent work. This is the sort of work that should be showcased by LW3DG.

Thank you guys! For the Toucans I used the old Displacement Fur Trick, using a MorphMap with nodes and Classic Motion Blur. Canīt wait to show you the others.

Animation like this gives me hope.

Animation like this gives me hope.

Let me seize this opportunity to aknowledge Ruben and Darwin, two great Uruguayan LW animators who were in charge of the animation of the 4 spots.

Then, kudos to Ruben and Darwin. Whatever the production process, the final result is very, very nice, IMO. Whether it's storyboarding up front, or "small loops" between the directors and animators on the back end, or whatever: the results are wonderful, IMO!

Congrats!

As promised, here are some renders. They were used for model approval. We did some small changes afterwards, but you can get a better (bigger) look at the birds.

the white feathers, they look very nice. may i ask how it was approached?

a simple normal map?

or perhaps baked out using the FiberFX bake-fur function?
FiberFX/Ourput/SaveRGBA (only works with perspective camera?)
[agh] i'm sure i saw a smart Bake-fur-to-UV-map function somewhere,... anyway, could be wrong.

Hi erikals!

What seems to be fur is displaced geometry. I used a MorphMap driven by a procedural which was moving from frame 0 to 1 and looped. It was then rendered with classic Motion Blur to get the soft effect.
It's an old trick, but it did the job.
I am sure there must be a better way, but FFX was not working for me and I didn't have much time to try and experiment. The normal bake thing sounds nice though.
It also required a very "delicate" lighting. If it was too dramatic with high difference between the lights and shadows of the HDR some stains or blotches appeared.
