View Full Version : Can I animate child objects with a "delay"

Check out the image attached here. There is a rows of blue bricks, and I need them to flip 180 deg. so they reveal the white side.


First brick on left is a parent object of each row. I have turned that some degree on the example image, and naturally all the child objects turn as well.

My question is: Can I animate child objects with a "delay" so all the bricks follow the flip movement but with a slight delay. Like this:

2nd brick - 3 frame delay
3rd brick - 6 frame delay
4th brick - 9 frame delay

I hope somebody have a elegant solution to this!

Use the Follower Modifier in Motion Options. And turn all channels to none in the position section. Only have it follow the rotation channels you want. You can add a delay. 1 equals 1 second.

Probably you don't want them parented in this case.

I don't think you want the bricks to be parented to each other since rotating the parent will rotate the child.

You could use Follower to set objects to follow another with delay. You could also use my ShiftKeysPlus script to setup your animation and offset the timing. The script is on my website which is in my signature. You could also do this with nodes.

I unparented them. Now I try to add the motion options modifier "Follower" but I do not have it there to choose from!

This is a perfect example when you could use instances instead of a lot of object copys. Makes the setup much faster and easier.

Cool man. Glad you got it working.

I don 't use instances much in LightWave. But if this is an easy set up that way, it will also save a lot of ram. So that is another option. And a smart one. ;)
