Hi all, does anyone know of a plug-in that will generate filigree patterns?

It might not suit your needs, but you may be able to use a kaleidoscope setup to generate the patterns you need. All the images below were generated using the sample scene attached.

The kaleidoscope object is a simple extruded triangle (created with Disc using three sides, 6 meters in length down the Z axis) with the end caps removed, the sides flipped, and the Surface set to 100% reflective. The Ray Recursion Limit needs to be set high in the Render Globals panel to keep the images reflecting the length of the kaleidoscope.

The kaleidoscope was also stretched 6x in the Z direction to focus in on a smaller portion of the backdrop. The higher the stretch, the more detailed the produced pattern will be.

The backdrop has a moving image on it using the X and Y Envelopes in the Position tab, allowing you to select portions of the backdrop image which might work well for what you want. Of course, you can change the backdrop image to be one with higher detail, black & white, more lines, more whitespace, etc. depending on what you need.

P.S. A note about the Z-axis stretching in my prior post: the Backdrop was only located 10 meters down the Z axis, so stretching the kaleidoscope beyond about 1.7 caused it to intersect the backdrop and any stretch above that (to 6x as I describe) had no effect. If you want more repetitions in the generated image, you'd need to move the backdrop farther away to allow a larger, useful stretch on the kaleidoscope.
