I am having trouble importing a character into Lightwave.

The mesh is detached from the bone structure.
The mesh is posed different than the bone position.
This causes trouble when trying to attach mesh to bone.
I have tried to import a Obj of mesh in correct pose.
When I try to attach the bone structure becomes a spot in the middle of the floor.

I know in part the mesh is detached due to the structure of the FBX file itself. But the FBX viewer is able to view the file just fine.
The scale of the program, which i'm exporting from, in part causes problems.
the FBX scale is different than the OBJ file.

The obj is very large
I scale it down
this causes the bone structure to crush down when I parent the bones to the mesh.

You didn't mention the source of the FBX so not sure if this will help or not:

I've been running some tests lately with FBX and have been having the best luck coming from DAZ 4.9. Finally got transferring morphs working. When opening the FBX in Layout, I just accept the defaults for scale & bone type.

I haven't tried swapping out the FBX for a RHiggit rig yet.

Surrealist.

Yeah source data is needed. Happy to help, if I know that. It sounds like there are some hierarchy issues (transforms in Maya for example) and maybe even constraint issues at the source.

Thanks, Watched the video think some of this information will help. I don't have RHiggit "Yet" but think for the workflow I'm looking at I think it's my next investment...

Wanted to thank everyone for the help. Between this Video by RHLW http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4nUt2-08Fs and the one for Daz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyyRJIwj-7E&t=8s Ma3rk mentioned I was able to find a path. I think the Daz one will be helpful when trying to go back to Iclone when needed. not sure the other one will.

Most work flow "I hope" will be Daz or Iclone to Lightwave then out to Render. But when setting up characters in Iclone I might have to go back...
