I did this for a little project at school. The dimensions are relatively accurate. It uses mostly primitives but I'm not the greatest at advanced modeling. Let me know what you think!

Nice and clean. Maybe the motion blur on the cable looks a bit strange.

Thanks riki! Any idea how to remove the blur from the cable, or at least decrease it?

nice image-

You can improve on the blur in two ways.
First increase the AA. the gihher the AA the finer the blur is.
If that does not work then just decrease the lengh that the wire is traveling.
that should do the trick!

hope it works!

Cool I think it fixed it more. For bandwidth's sake I'll just keep this one up here though.

Hang on - you can't do a subject like that, and not post an animation, can you?

12-22-2003, 07:31 AM
Yes an animation would be cool... My question is why everyone is tripping over the motion-blur on the first ball? I think it looks better than no blur. What is it specificaly about the blur that everyone is seeing. Educate me.

Well, I have it animated. I even add some ticks in there through Adobe Premiere. But the overall size is about 9 megs so I don't really want to upload it.
As for the motion blur, I just assumed people thought there shouldn't be any blur on the string. I don't know really.

Hey cheese you ever lived in Galveston and run a mac bbs called the cheese board?
Sorry - I had to ask you see for it relates to my distant past when I used to chat with the sysop back in the 80's.

12-22-2003, 07:27 PM
Nah but I live in El Paso and in the late 80's I was a preschooler.

it looks like there's too much motion blur all-together and it makes it look like the ball is moving REALLY fast (or the shutter speed is really slow) . . . and i think it should look less even because of the acceleration in one direction or the other just my thoughts.

aha, Newtons Cradle.

Nicely done !

cool image, thou maybe it lacks some details, like in the places where the string connects to the ball, and the pools to the base, maybe some more definition of the materials
