So is this Vray taking secret orders from Autodesk and pulling a Softimage, pretend they are going to develop both but then kill it off to capture the market share?

No, Chaos Group / Vlado and the team of Corona are both very communicative and open minded. They decided to even double the Corona team.

Vlado even answered questions in the cgpress comments: http://cgpress.org/archives/chaos-group-to-acquire-corona.html (scroll down to read his replies).

Nothing to do with Autodesk in my opinion.

As a Vray user I'm very happy about this!

Goodbye corona. Even you could not topple the king of renderers.
I hope Redshift does not get acquired.
