Am in need of some sort of grass generator for the LW Mac version.

Only finding dead links or links to Tree Designer.

Really appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Carl

Although this is for blender, you can easily transfer geometry and rebuild the simple shaders in lw:
http://www.3d-wolf.com/grass.html
(there is also a commercial grass collection aviable for blender, but for starters the above mentioned
version should be enough for a good headstart)

and then there is also this lw preset

have fun

some years ago, onyx made good procedural plant generators, but they abandoned the mac platform some time ago. nowadays plantfactory seems to be the new standard, and it's for mac as well... personally, i am using just LW's native instancing with some xfrog and hq grass (3dmentor) models which i converted from C4D to LW.

I think my next buys will be some LW-ready vegetation by Vizpark. They seem to render really cool. I plan to buy real trees and real grass. I'll certainly add real shrubs when it's converted for LW.

Otherwise, I still rely on treedesigner for specific needs.

I highly recommend you take a look at VIZPARK's RealGrass product (Lightwave version) (http://www.vizpark.com/shop/real-grass/) (by forum resident Elvis B., aka "Lewis"). I'm a very satisfied customer, the pkg's content works great with instancing for generating grassy fields, etc. in all compatible packages. See website for more details, but IIRC, the LW version provides content as LWO, sample scene files, and apparently even has materials for Octane on LW, as well as LW's native renderer.

i second this, vizpark's models are very well converted! as you original question was about tree or grass generators, don't forget to have a look at denis pontonnier's instancer plugin, which adds a few more options to the already excellent native instancing system... denis also created a tree generator some time ago, which is worth to experiment with as well - and it's free (but send him some donation if u are going to use it, he will be happy)!

edit: i see now that verdure has not been converted to mac yet, that's a pity!

I am on the Mac and have PlantFactory, but I went and bought The Grove for Blender just for the fun of it and really enjoy it, stuff comes into LW just fine, it's different to other solutions in as much that all branch endings and leaves are generated as instances, which means one prototype tree will not work with an instance generator but you can clone it conventionally with clone hierarchy. If I was really into doing landscapes to the exclusion of everything else I would go and use Unity or Unreal, both of which would trounce Lightwave at this sort of thing.
