View Full Version : What happened to web distributed rendering?

I remember in 6.5 there was a feature for using screamernet over the web. Did that feature get taken out of 7.0 and Higher?

The "feature" you're referring to was/is StealthNet - a means IIRC to control ScreamerNet nodes via TCPIP - an excellent idea sadly let down by a baffling UI and a user guide bordering on an alien language ;)

I seem to recall that it only worked on NT/Win2k machines as it was installed as a "service" - I tried setting it up once or twice but never got it to work (and I've set up a LOT of ScreamerNet networks).

Hopefully an improved (and user-friendly) version will appear at some point (and a WinXP version of Vidget would be nice too ;))

Thanks Andrew,

Do you know of an alternative that will let me do the same thing? I'm on a team with 3 other animators all working remotely. It would be great if we could all have access to the cpus at the office for renders.

I'm not aware of any alternatives although I haven't really looked for one ;) your best bet is to check out www.flay.com - they may have something that suits your needs.

I've been wading through the options on flay.com. Man there are a lot of add ons for screamernet. I'm just not sure which one(s) is right for my situation. I guess I'll just have try out a few, and see which one works best.
