Am I going mad?
I went to get some lunch, and when I came back to computer, the resolution seems much higher on the forums (i.e. all the text is smaller).

in Firefox when you accidentally press ctrl + or ctrl - you can change scale of entire website.

Whoa, I didn't even know about such a feature.
I am in Safari, and your right, I set it to actual size and fine again.
That's weird, I must have rested something on the keyboard or something.

in firefox, also hold ctrl down and use middle mouse button and scroll to zoom in or out.

Ah that sounds like the culprit, i'm always scrolling.
Easy to rest some papers on ctrl key (not so easy to press two keys)

If you got two hands, dead easy, left index finger on the ctrl, right index finger on the middle mouse button and not even needing to press it, just caress it slightly, then move the finger back and forth without the intent to do other things than just scrolling.:D:D

my cat sometimes walks on my keyboard asking for attention and I find new "features" in different apps.

Find out who did it, go to their desktop, and hit CTRL-ALT down arrow (assuming windows).

Its amazing how very few people know the shortcut, and it is great for quick and easy revenge.

In other news, forum revamp/reset, or is something weird going on ? I figured they were housecleaning to kill the double post bug.
