View Full Version : Eyes shading like messiah's Dolleyes

Just play with Dolleyes shader in messiah.
Nice shading and very easy to use.

In my scene, just a simple uv ball and a null, here is what I got:
137379
137380
137381

So simple, with the magic parameter, I can get nice iris depth and highlight in seconds.
Is it possible be made with lw surface nodes? I mean the iris depth with a simple uv ball?

Very interesting. (commenting mostly to get subscribed)

I never noticed this feature in Messiah. Good necro-spelunking!

If I remember correctly, Taron used some coding trickery to create the internal structure for the eye from just a surface.
I'm not sure you can do the inner part with just LW nodes?
You can always write him a mail and see if he would be willing to tell you more about it.

Cheers,

Tom

i would still defer to modeling for the eye components and the eye structure (recessed curvature for the iris beneath a specular/reflectant surface), and shade the iris via surfacing/nodes. would create depth.

not nodes, but might be of use >

in messiah.

wow! i think users don't have.
Forum disappeared in silence facebook...

it'd be cool to see a LW nodes example on how to, think it should be possible, somehow.

...yes, do ask at LightWiki, more action over there

Thanks, everyone.
erikals:
Modeling is one way to get the deep and highlight look, but in messiah, that is a shading way. As Thomas said, it's a trickery, and I think it's hard to implement in LW's node editor.

yes, could be, i think the gradient trick is close, though only 80% there...

Hi,
one way I see is to use a normalmap to get the deep.
Here is an fast test. Maybe I could post the objekt file later.

yes, could be an idea, how about perspective view? does it look alright from an angle?

forgot about Relief Map from DPont, could be an idea also...

The same question as erikals, what about perspective view?

The same question as erikals, what about perspective view?

Here is an animated gif (without color for better visibility) of the eye rotating between -45° and 45°.
However itīs a ball and side view shows that!

NICE. :king:

Yes, it is nice.
Of course, the messiah one still far better. Specular on iris, deep of pupil on a single uv ball.

wouldn't say so, as LightWave setups have much more power in general, and can be made to look 100% what you want.

Messiah is nice if you have little time though. Looking at the Messiah one there are drawback on that one as well, so...
